Man Robs Woman To Finance Poker Habit

A man robbed a woman to fund his poker habit Tuesday, Sept. 12 in Saipan. The man used the money to play poker in two arcades shortly thereafter.

Police conducted a search in Chalan Piao and Chalan Kanoa where Jeffret P. Cabrera, 25, was arrested near William S. Reyes Elementary School past 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Cabrera's victim suffered a swollen upper lip in the scuffle. Police recovered from the rrest part of her stolen cash and personal belongings.

According to reports, the woman was walking in front of the Monte Carlo Club in Chalan Piao the night of the incident when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her purse which contained $300 and some personal items. A struggle ensued where she was slightly injured.

The victim immediately reported the incident to police authorities. She also did a follow-up on the report when she saw the suspect inside Viva II poker in Chalan Piao.

Police responded to the tip, but upon arriving on the scene the suspect has already left. A few minutes later, police spotted the suspect who was positively identified by the victim.

Cabrera admitted to robbing the victim and later guided the police to the place where he threw the rest of the woman's belongings. He likewise admitted to using the money to play poker in two gambling parlors.
